Welcome To Pippy & Co.

" Surely I could curate a collection of sustainable toys that could be passed from child to child, through generations that wasn't (dare I say it..) "gender specific" or hideously coloured "

Howdy,

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my first ever blog post for Pippy & Co. My name is Shantel and I am and the founder and all round mum brain (albeit wrecked from pregnancy and toddler mum life) behind Pippy & Co. I wanted to informally introduce myself to you so you can get to know the person behind the brand.

How strange that for a person who loves to waffle on I have no idea what to say, so I will start with a long story of my whole life... just kidding! Ain't no body got time for that! But here's a bit about my background and how I came to start Pippy & Co.

Hailing from Milton Keynes, I was swiftly shipped off to Hong Kong at the age of 13 with my parents to live and study out there. Did I love it? Sure, who wouldn't! When it was time for University I chose to study English Literature and Creative Writing at Liverpool, after my stint in the North West I ventured down to East London where I met my partner, I threw my degree out the window and pursued my love for fashion, working as a Stylist and personal shopper for many years before working for the wonderful House of Hackney as a Trade Account Manager. After the birth of our son, Travis, we decided when he was 2 weeks old that it would be a brilliant idea to pack our bags and move to the Cornish coast. Not something I would recommend after just going through birth, but each to their own..

" But as soon as Travis arrived I realised that the only options for easily accessible toys were made from plastic "

Sustainability had always been something I was passionate about, I did my best to reduce plastic in our home where possible and always tried to go for the natural version of whatever cleaning chemical was on the market. But as soon as Travis arrived I realised that the only options for easily accessible toys were made from plastic, used batteries (and with that comes way too much noise) and were either pink, blue or multicoloured. I put my foot down and only wanted him to have toys that were gentle for the planet, would help boost his imagination and were beautiful in design. I then realised that I can't be the only parent who feels this way and as many people choose to have more than 1 child, surely I could curate a collection of sustainable toys that could be passed from child to child, through generations that wasn't, dare I say it.. "gender specific" or hideously coloured.. and **POOF** Pippy & Co. became more than just a COVID 19 Lockdown 1.0 daydream. Where does the name Pippy come from you ask (or not..)? It was a nickname that I gave him from the moment he was born, it started as Pipsqueak and turned into Pippy, and since he is my inspiration it seemed only fitting to name the brand after him.

Pippy & co. has achieved so much in the short time that it has been launched, from an award for Sustainable Toy Shop of the Year in the South West to launching it's own range of illustrated Christmas Cards that became a best seller, I can't wait to see what the next year and beyond has for this little business.

So there you have it, a little introduction to me and Pippy & Co. thank you for taking the time to read and hope there were a couple of smiles.

Till next time,

Shantel
